More Than a Tour Company: Our Journey of Kuleana, Culture, and Conservation

Aloha means hello, goodbye, love, compassion, and kindness.
We are very happy you found us! Welcome to our ‘ohana (family)!
When visitors step into one of our eco-friendly Mercedes vans, they’re not just embarking on a tour—they’re joining a mission that began over three decades ago, rooted in deep respect for Hawaiian culture and an unwavering commitment to preserving the sacred ‘āina (land) of Maui.
Our Foundation: Living the Spirit of Kuleana
Kuleana is one’s personal sense of responsibility. This uniquely Hawaiian value drives everything we do at Aloha Eco Adventures. As a locally-owned, family-operated company, we embrace this ancient principle that compels us to say: “I accept my responsibilities, and I will be held accountable.”
This isn’t just a business philosophy—it’s our sacred duty. Kuleana motivates us to preserve Hawaii’s natural beauty, teach our guests about conservation, and give back to our community in meaningful ways.
A Legacy of Conservation Since 1992
Long before Aloha Eco Adventures officially existed, our journey began in 1992 with a simple but powerful commitment: to care for and preserve the ‘āina. What started as a personal passion has grown into a comprehensive conservation effort that has touched over one million lives—both human and plant.
Over the years, we’ve propagated more than 1 million Hawaiian ferns and indigenous plants, helping to restore native ecosystems and preserve biodiversity. We’re also deeply committed to continuing the ancient Hawaiian tradition of taro (kalo) farming, honoring a plant that has sustained Hawaiian culture for over 1,500 years.
The Sacred Story of Taro
When the first Polynesian voyagers arrived on Hawaiian shores nearly 1,500 years ago, kalo (taro) was among the sacred plants they carefully carried across thousands of miles of ocean. In ancient Hawaii, taro transcended its role as a dietary staple—it became the economic, political, and spiritual center of Hawaiian agricultural society.
So vital was taro to Hawaiian survival and prosperity that it earned a place in Hawaiian mythology as an elder sibling to the Hawaiian people themselves. Today, we honor this sacred relationship by continuing traditional taro cultivation and sharing its cultural significance with our guests.
Giving Back: Our Community Commitment
We believe every keiki (child) deserves basic needs met and equal opportunities in life. That’s why a portion of all our tour sales goes directly to supporting local children in need, and we proudly partner with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. When you choose Aloha Eco Adventures, you’re not just experiencing Maui—you’re helping support the next generation.
Inspiration from Ancient Kings: The Story Behind Our Tours
Our tours were born from a profound connection to Hawaiian history and a desire to share authentic cultural experiences that we’ve been cultivating since 1992. The inspiration came from an ancient story that perfectly captures the spirit of exploration and connection to the land.
In ancient times, King Pi’ilani became the first ruler to unify Maui’s twelve districts, ushering in a golden age of peace, prosperity, and remarkable construction. He ordered a footpath built around the entire island—a trail used by kūkini, specially trained messengers who could cross the island in a single day following this narrow path.
Today, the King’s Trail, like many links to Hawaii’s irreplaceable past, is slowly fading away. Stories are being forgotten, and progress takes its toll on these sacred pathways. This ancient story inspired us to create custom-tailored tours that follow portions of these historic routes, inviting you to walk in the footsteps of Hawaiian royalty and messengers.
Your Journey Along Ancient Paths
When you join us on the Road to Hana, you’re experiencing one of Maui’s most popular adventures while helping to revive Hawaiian ways. Our route traces portions of the original King’s Trail, where you’ll discover:

Wai’anapanapa’s dramatic black sand beach in East Maui, where nearly four miles of the ancient King’s Trail run along the coast
Palm trees hanging over stormy emerald bays with ocean spray cascading up rugged cliffs
Hana Bay town and a farm to table lunch of the local Hana farms
Rolling lava fields leading to Haleakala, the crater at 10.000 feet elevation and more

Our Promise: Authentic, Sustainable, Cultural
We’re not just tour guides—we’re cultural ambassadors, conservation advocates, and community partners. Every journey with Aloha Eco Adventures supports:
